Dementia café (decafs) leads gathered this week at the charming Preston Pub in Wembley to share updates and insights about CADBrent’s remarkable network of 17 dementia cafés. These cafés, established over the past decade, serve as vital social spaces where individuals living with dementia and their carers can connect weekly to socialise, exchange experiences, and share practical advice for better management of daily challenges.
Each café, powered by the dedication of extraordinary volunteers, represents CADBrent’s ambitious vision to transform Brent into a dementia-friendly borough. From faith centres to day centres and community halls, these locations are generously provided free of charge, creating welcoming environments for this crucial community support.
Despite the undeniable value of dementia cafés in relieving pressure on health and local authority services, CADBrent and its cafés receive no statutory funding. This is a grassroots initiative entirely sustained by the goodwill and tireless efforts of volunteers, who ensure these spaces continue to flourish. Without this service, many individuals living with dementia and their carers would face the daunting reality of managing alone.
CADBrent applauds the resilience and solidarity of the dementia community and its volunteers, who together embody the spirit of compassionate community action. As we look forward, sustaining this impactful service remains a challenge—a testament to the importance of community-driven solutions in creating meaningful change.
