Dementia Peer Support Service

We are delighted to announce that the Clinical Commissioning Groups have awarded the contract for a dementia peer support service to Brent’s Community Action on Dementia in partnership with Ashford Place  Ashford Place is the main delivery partner and activities and events will be offered at venues across the borough. Amanda Cattini, is the Brent Dementia Peer Support Project Lead for the project.

This is a highly innovative project which will be led by people living with dementia. Many people living with dementia and their carers have already expressed their desire to retain their links with the community, engage in social and educational events, and participate in stimulating and enjoyable activities. Many have also expressed their desire to use the skills and knowledge they have developed over time to help others who may be feeling lost and abandoned following a dementia diagnosis.

Amanda will invite people living with dementia to become “Peer Supporters”. Peer Supporters (who will be awarded  for their contribution) will support others recently diagnosed with dementia by sharing their occupational and life skills, and experience of coping with dementia. We envisage offering a range of benefits and services, including health promotion activities, opportunities for learning about dementia and social events. We also anticipate being able to offer some specific support for family carers, but the exact nature of what will be offered will depend on what people living with dementia want.
